My name is Jay Tomchuk and I was born in North Bay, Ontario in the early 70's .

Living in northern Ontario during my formative years gave me an innate love for the wilderness that surrounds us everywhere. Many of the nature photos in my gallery are simply my attempts to capture the things I saw growing up. The beauty that exists in the world around us which never fails to amaze us. From the most simple of things with flowers and landscapes, to the intricate world that exists, filled with wild creatures and amazing birds, these have been my inspiration for most of my life.

In recent years I have developed a love of anything fast moving. Be it planes, cars, bicycles, or even runners competing at the highest levels in triathalons and marathons, the true spirit of the sport remains the same. Winners rise to the top and true competitors continue until the race is finished regardless of their position, simply proving to themselves that they were up to the task. These are the things that inspire me in my sports photos . The love of the sport is what really matters in the end.

Music has always been near and dear to my heart. Growing up in a very musical family where most of the family held an instrument in their hands at an early age instilled in me a love for the sounds that surround us. Not all music appeals to everyone but music exists in everyone's daily lives. That thought alone is what inspires me when shooting a new local band on the rise, or a solo musician striking out on their own. The artist on stage is as important to the image as the music they are playing for the audience around them. The audience is the canvas that a musician uses to determine the outcome of their performance. Capturing the true heart of the performance is what drives me to feel inspired to convey the true meaning of the music.

Life is happening all around us whether we take notice or not. Children grow up before our very eyes while we try to age gracefully and stay in touch with the world around us. Living life and finding the true meaning of happiness are the things that should inspire all of us as we face the world each day. Capturing these moments of pure emotion is what I strive for with every image I shoot.
